Africa: Resolution on human rights violations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, meeting at its 55 Ordinary Session held in Luanda, Angola, from 28 April to 12 May 2014,  delivered a groundbreaking  resolution on human rights violations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.  This outcome is the result of systematic work  performed by civili society organizations defending the rights of  persons whose sexual orientation and gender identity differ from dominant heteronorms. It is also a fundamental step towards shifting the geopolitical pattern of the debate and contextually grounding it in the continent.
