At the beginning of September 2021, although she was on vacation, the Brazilian National Secretary for the Family, Angela Gandra, went to Portugal and Spain. In this latter country, she participated in a meeting of Catholic political leaders and met with a conservative judge of the Constitutional Court. Then, she visited Ukraine to attend the famous Prayer’s Breakfast which brought together a wide range of right-wing and anti-LGBTTIA+ rights activists. Also in September, she participated virtually in a webinar organized by the Political Network of Values (PNV) to evaluate a decade of family politics in Hungary.
In October, Gandra and Damares, as leaders of the so-called Geneva Consensus, attended a ceremony organized by the government of Guatemala to mark the country’s adherence to the platform. They have also traveled to Geneva for a series of diplomatic gatherings: an encounter with states belonging to the Lusophone Community, a conversation with a director of the WHO, a visit to the UNHCR, and a meeting with the Hungarian chancellor. They have also participated as conveners, with the governments of Hungary and Poland, in a panel chaired by ILO to discuss the proper balance between work and family. Finally, a meeting was held at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the launching of the Geneva Consensus and also to announce that the Russian Federation had joined the platform.
