The Yokyakarta Principles have been translated into Portuguese and were launched in a series of events in Brazil, held in 2007, in Porto Alegre (August 24th), Rio de Janeiro (August 27th), Nova Iguaçu (August, 31st), and São Paulo (August, 31st).
These events were organized by a group of Brazilian based networks and NGOs working on sexual rights issues:

- Grupo Arco Iris
- Centro de Referência em Direitos Humanos para pessoas GLBTTA (Grupo D’Ellas)

- SOMOS – Comunicação, Saúde e Sexualidade
- IEN – Instituto Edson Neris
In partnership with key institutions working in the human rights field:
The Federal Public Attorney’s Office in São Paulo

CONECTAS DIREITOS HUMANOS
As well as with the Nova Iguaçu Municipal Program on HIV/AIDS
Mauro Cabral who participated in the elaboration of the principles has participated in all four events and we enormously thank him for this effort. In Porto Alegre, the panel counted with the participation of Eugênio Terra from AJURIS, and Alexandre Böer (ABGLT). In Rio, it was coordinated by Sonia Corrêa (SPW) and had the presences of Claudio Nascimento who heads the Rio de Janeiro State Department on Individual, Collective and Diffuse Rights, Horacio Sívori who is a researcher at CLAM and Yone Lindgren from the Reference Center for LGBTTA Human Rights.
The Rio launching has the privilege of also counting with the presences of Beto de Jesus from ILGA Latin America, Boris Dittrich from Human Rights Watch, Stephen Barris from ILGA World. Mauro Cabral and Sonia Corrêa conducted the discussions in Nova Iguaçu. In São Paulo, the launching was held in the Federal Public Attorney’s Office in São Paulo and had the participation of the Federal Attorney, Dr. Sergio Suiama, Beto de Jesus, Stephen Barris and Laura Mattar from CONECTAS.
In all events the content of the Principles were lively discussed and ideas have been raised in respect to how to disseminate the document more widely. Among other initiatives suggested, the Women’s Committee and the Human Rights Committee of the Rio de Janeiro Bar Association has decided to organize a seminar to discuss the content and application of the principles in Brazil.
