Campaigns

25 Apr 2015

The links below give access to campaigns engaged on reproductive and sexual rights.

In February 2009, TARSHI, along with 20 other organizations initiated a campaign and an open letter pressing for the introduction of sexuality education in India. After that, a Parliamentary Committee headed by Mr. Venkaiah Naidu has disfavoured the introduction of sexuality education in schools. Please click here to read the open letter which can also be found on the home page of TARSHI. Take action, sign the letter and circulate this far and wide encouraging people to sign on to the letter. TARSHI truly hopes we can make this initiative count!

The campaign AGAINST FUNDAMENTALISMS, PEOPLE ARE FUNDAMENTAL aims to multiply voices expressing firm opposition to discriminatory social practices, discourses and representations, which oppress people or leave them in a state of vulnerability. They believe it is possible to construct both symbolically and politically, a new dimension to the human being and subject, whether embodied as woman or man, through which these practices will become impossible.

The campaign for an Inter American Convention on Sexual Rights and Reproductive Rights was launched at the end of the year 1999. The Manifesto of the Campaign, in its first version for debate, was circulated from November 2002 onwards among all organizations and people who were already involved in the Campaign and also among those with whom the caimpaing coordinators had managed to establish contact. These included civil society organizations in our region and in other parts of the world. A second version of the Manifesto — which is a political charter and at the same time a proposal that contributes towards laying the foundation for a future Convention on sexual rights and reproductive rights, is already available for download.

In Spanish and Portuguese: Latin-American Campaign for the Right for Legal, Safe and Free Abortions. Latin America has the highest rate of abortions under dangerous conditions: almost 4 million a year. It’s evident that the region’s illegal abortion policy doesn’t stop self-induced and clandestine abortions from happening, which puts millions of women’s lives at risk. The majority of these women are young, adolescents, workers and poor. Opposing abortion rights, isn’t supporting life, it’s supporting clandestine abortions.
